The Story Behind Coast Rugby Academy
Coast Rugby Academy was created by David Maskell, whose passion for rugby and children's development has been at the heart of his career.
David previously created Scrumys in the UK, developing an early-years rugby programme designed to introduce young children to rugby through fun, movement and play.
His work in early-years rugby also led to David writing the Early Provision Guidelines with the Rugby Football Union (RFU), helping shape the way rugby can be introduced to younger children.
David has always believed that the earlier children have a positive experience with sport, the greater the opportunity to develop a lifelong love of being active.
A Great Honour
One of the highlights of David's career was being appointed Chairman of Sport for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
It was a huge honour and an opportunity to celebrate the role sport plays in bringing people and communities together.
That same philosophy continues today through Coast Rugby Academy. David wants Coast Rugby to be about more than developing rugby players. It is about developing confident children, strong communities and positive experiences through sport.
From the UK to the Gold Coast
After building his experience in the UK, David has brought his passion for rugby and community development to Australia.
Coast Rugby Academy combines the experience gained through Scrumys and years of working with children and communities with a fresh vision for rugby on the Gold Coast.
